Go 360-Degree with Facebook

Sharing regular Photos and Videos on Facebook has become a thing of the past. Now it’s time for a 360-degree revolution. Facebook recently rolled out support for 360-degree photos and videos.

Basically, 360-degree allows you to view the photo or video from every angle including above, below, behind and next to you.

Facebook 360-Degree Photos

360-degree Photos allow you to share a more immersive experience with your facebook friends by taking them behind the scenes and putting them at the center of the action.

Below are the lists of cameras that Facebook officially supports:

  • Ricoh Theta S
  • Giroptic 360 Cam
  • Samsung Gear 360
  • LG 360 Cam
  • IC Realtech Allie
  • 360Fly
  • Panono

However, you don’t need a special camera or even a 360-degree photo app in order to upload your own interactive picture.

Anything newer than an iPhone 4S, iPad Mini 2 or either iPad Air and iPad Pro model will work. Or, a Galaxy device newer than Samsung Galaxy S5 or Galaxy Note 3 will do.

Uploading a Photo

  1. Take a panorama with your phone or capture a 360-degree photo using a 360 photo app or 360 cameras.
  2. Then post it on Facebook as you would a normal photo.
  3. From there, it will automatically convert to an immersive 360 photo that people can explore.

Highlighted guidelines

  1. Facebook can work with images taken using the panorama mode.
  2. Facebook states this feature will only work with photos that are 100 degrees or bigger.
  3. You cannot upload more than one panorama photo at a time.
  4. You can also change the starting view, by editing the photo, even after uploading.

How to upload Facebook 360 pics from just any smartphone?


Facebook 360-Degree Videos

A special set of cameras is used to record 360 degrees videos. Hence, viewers can choose any angle they want to see it from the video just by dragging around the video.

Uploading a Video

  1. Capture a video using the 360-degree camera.
  2. Before publishing the video, click the Advanced tab
  3. Then, click the checkbox next to “This video was recorded in 360° format” to make the 360 Controls tab appear.
  4. Click the 360 Controls tab to set the initial camera orientation and field of view for your video.

Highlighted guidelines

  1. Check, “This video was recorded in 360° format” while uploading.
  2. Head to the new “360 Controls” tab.
  3. Check the box that says “Enable Guide.”
  4. Play through your video to identify the points of interest that you don’t want your followers to miss.
  5. To add a point of interest, select “+ Add Point” when the video is paused, and that point of interest will be added to Guide.
